Ellenwood, Georgia was where Malone spent his childhood, and he started out his high school career at Martin Luther King Jr. High School. Later on, he transferred to Cedar Grove High School.
As Cedar Grove won the AAA state championship, he led the team in tackles with 49, including eight for a loss. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution named him to the first team of the All-State and All-Metro teams for his performance.
