Jacob Thomas Matthews, an offensive lineman for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League, was born on February 11, 1992. In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Falcons selected him with the sixth overall choice.
He participated in college football at Texas A&M. He hails from the Matthews football-playing family. While he was a student at Missouri City’s Elkins High School, Matthews participated in offensive tackle for the Elkins Knights high school football team.
As a junior in 2012, Matthews was chosen for the first team of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in honor of his productive campaign. The Football Writers Association of America also named him to their first team of All-Americans.
In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons selected Matthews with the sixth overall choice. Matthews and the Falcons made it to Super Bowl LI in the 2016 campaign, where they played the New England Patriots.
In the Super Bowl, Matthews participated in all offensive snaps and committed two important holding penalties that most likely caused the Patriots to win the game in the closing seconds as the Falcons lost 34-28 in overtime.
Matthews and the Falcons agreed to a three-year, $52.5 million agreement on March 14, 2022.

Jake Matthews, a first-round draft pick by the Falcons, has one of the best football backgrounds one could hope for.
He is the son of Bruce Matthews, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Kevin Matthews, Jake’s older brother, played for Texas A&M, and Mike Matthews, Jake’s younger brother, is currently a center for the Aggies.
He has a cousin with both Casey Matthews of the Eagles and Clay Matthews of the Packers. However, Jake paid tribute to Gweneth, the youngest of his seven siblings and a person with Down syndrome, on Tuesday.
