William spent his childhood in Pasadena, California, and went to Saint Francis High School before moving on to JSerra Catholic High School just before entering his senior year.
Williams was voted the co-Most Valuable Player of the Trinity League as a senior after he rushed for 1,175 yards and 14 touchdowns on offense while playing as a running back. In addition, Williams was selected for All-Area honors while playing as a defensive back.

Avery Williams attended Boise State University from 2016–2020 and played for the Boise State Broncos.
Williams was a walk-on for the football team at Boise State and redshirted his first year. During his redshirt year, he was honored as the Special Teams Scout Team Player of the Year and received a scholarship during the autumn preseason training camp in 2017.
During his redshirt freshman season, Williams started at cornerback and also played punt and kick returner for the team.
Williams finished the season with two interceptions and eight passes broken up, and he also returned two punts for touchdowns. Williams was named to the second-team all-Mountain West Conference after the season.
