According to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Cleveland Browns have acquired Deion Jones in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons.
After having surgery on his shoulder during the offseason before the start of the 2022 season, the experienced inside linebacker has been placed on injured reserve ever since the season began.
Reports from Rapoport indicate that the Falcons have parted ways with Jones in order to receive draft pick compensation for a late-round pick.
The details of the trade were reported by Albert Breer, who stated that the Browns would receive Jones and a 2024 7th-round draft pick, while the Falcons would get a 2024 6th-round pick.
The Browns, on the other hand, will be responsible for paying Jones’ existing salary, which, after accounting for reclassifications, comes to a grand total of $1.39 million.
Jones had the largest and most expensive contract on the current Falcons roster after the team traded Matt Ryan to the Colts this offseason and extended both Jake Matthews and Grady Jarrett.
Jones signed a four-year contract worth $57 million in 2019, making him the player with the most expensive deal on the team.
According to Tom Pelissero’s report, the Falcons will be responsible for a dead cap charge of $12.14 million in 2023 for Jones.
