After seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Deion Jones has joined the Cleveland Browns in a trade that sent him and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for a 2024 sixth-round pick.
Jone was initially drafted by the Falcons in the second round with the 52nd overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Jones was the first of two linebackers that the Falcons drafted and the eighth overall linebacker draft in the 2016 NFL draft. Jones also reconnected with Jalen Collins, a former teammate of his at LSU.
The Falcons gave Jones a four-year deal worth $4.54 million on May 5, 2016, when they signed him to the deal. The deal includes a signing bonus of $1.50 million and a guaranteed amount of $2.16 million.
During the entirety of training camp, Jones competed against seasoned veteran Paul Worrilow for the role of starting middle linebacker for the team.
Even though Jones was recruited with the intention of eventually replacing Worrilow, Jones says that Worrilow nonetheless served as a mentor to him during the beginning of his career. Jones praises Worrilow for mentoring him through the beginning of his career.
