American football quarterback Desmond Ridder is currently playing for the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League.
He received the AAC Offensive Player of the Year award on two separate occasions while playing collegiate football at Cincinnati.
In the third round of the NFL Draft in 2022, Ridder was selected by the Falcons to join their team. Ridder was born in Louisville, Kentucky, to a woman who was just 15 years old at the time of her delivery, and to his grandmother.
Ridder earned All-Metro honours as a senior at St. Xavier High School after leading the Tigers in rushing with 668 yards and 12 touchdowns.
He also led the team in scoring with 12 touchdowns. He turned down an invitation to play college football at Eastern Kentucky in favour of making a commitment to the University of Cincinnati.
After participating in a tryout that took place on the morning of the Kentucky Oaks, the head coach at Cincinnati, Tommy Tuberville, extended him an offer for a scholarship there.
Ridder was honoured as the Most Valuable Player of the 2020 Birmingham Bowl when he not only rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns but also passed for 95 yards and one touchdown throughout the game.
He gave serious consideration to entering the NFL Draft in 2021 but ultimately decided against it in favour of returning for his redshirt senior season.
As a redshirt sophomore, Ridder threw for 2,164 yards and 18 touchdowns while also rushing for 650 yards and scoring five times. He completed 179 of 325 passes for 2,164 yards.
