For the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League, Malik Hooker is a professional safety. He is 98 kilograms and 1.85 meters tall. He was a cornerback and wide receiver in football and basketball while a student at New Castle High School. He received the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Male Athlete of the Year award as a senior.
He attended at Ohio State University after graduating from high school and played collegiate football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He played in all 13 games in 2015 after redshirting his freshman season at Ohio State in 2014, earning 10 tackles while primarily playing on special teams. He took over at free safety in 2016 as a redshirt sophomore.
He received first-team Big Ten honors in November 2016. He made the decision to join the 2017 NFL Draft rather than take advantage of his final two years of eligibility after the season. With the 15th overall choice in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts picked Hooker.
He would have been a free agent in 2021 had the Colts not exercised the fifth-year option on his contract in May 2020. Hooker agreed to a contract with the Dallas Cowboys in July 2021. He appeared in 15 games while remaining healthy, making 44 tackles and one interception. He extended his deal with the Cowboys for an additional two years in March 2022.
