Rico Dowdle is a running back for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He is 1.80 m tall and weighs 98 kg. His high school football career included 247 carries for 2,545 yards and 51 rushing touchdowns while he was a student at A.C. Reynolds High School. In addition to catching a touchdown pass for 55 yards, he also completed passes for 1,434 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.
With 63 total touchdowns, a WNC single-season record, he was named All-WNC Player of the Year and received Parade All-American, All-state, and other accolades. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the University of South Carolina and played NCAA football for the Gamecocks.
His off-season surgery to treat a sports hernia resulted in him missing the first four games as a rookie. Despite experiencing groin concerns that prevented him from fully recovering during the winter, he finished as the team’s second-leading rusher in his senior year with 108 carries for 498 yards and 4 running touchdowns.
In 39 games, he accumulated 2,167 yards on the ground and 16 touchdowns, placing him 15th all-time at the university. In eight of those games, he rushed for at least 100 yards, with 226 yards being his greatest total. He took part in and accumulated 50 rushing yards in the 2020 East-West Shrine Bowl. Dowdle was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in April 2020, following the 2020 NFL Draft.
