John Ridgeway represents the Washington Commanders in the National Football League. He weighs 146 kg and stands 1.96 m tall. At Bloomington High School, he participated in football as an offensive and defensive tackle. He was named to the Big Twelve Conference’s first teams for both attack and defense as a senior.
Before playing collegiate football with the Illinois State Redbirds at Illinois State University, he redshirted as a true freshman. He recorded 30 tackles and one sack as a redshirt freshman to earn a spot on the Missouri Valley Football Conference’s (MVFC) All-Newcomer team. He earned 22 tackles, three tackles for loss, and was selected to the first team of the MVFC during his redshirt junior season.
After the 2020 season, he used the transfer portal to switch to the University of Arkansas, where he continued playing football for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He was chosen to start as the Razorbacks’ nose guard for the 2021 season, however he was unable to play because of an appendectomy. He concluded the season with 39 tackles, two sacks, and four tackles for loss.
After the season was over, he announced his intent to enter the 2022 NFL Draft. The Dallas Cowboys selected Ridgeway in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, with the 178th overall pick. On September 17, 2022, he was released from his contract. On September 19, 2022, the Washington Commanders claimed him off of waivers.
