Before the Giants selected him in the seventh round of the NFL draft in 2020, Carter Coughlin, a linebacker for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, had one of the best college careers.

Coughlin comes from a long line of athletes. His grandpa, Tom Moe, played for the Gophers from 1957 to 1959 and then worked as the interim athletic director for the Maroon and Gold for three years (1999-2002).

His uncle, Mike Moe, played for the Gophers in the 1980s and earned a letter of recognition from the team.

Robert and Jennie Coughlin are the proud parents of the linebacker, Carter Coughlin. Robert and his wife Jennie have five children including Coughlin. His other children are Quinn, Cullen, Kaiden, and Callie.

Robert was a two-year letter winner for the Gophers in football and played for Minnesota from 1986 to 1990.

His mom Jennie, who was a member of the Minnesota tennis team from 1989 to 1992, was named to the all-conference team three times and was named the most valuable player of the team twice.

She is ranked among the top five players in the history of the program in both singles wins (92) and doubles wins (89).
