A wide receiver and return specialist with the New York Giants in the National Football League, Richard Rhondel “Richie” James Jr. was born on September 5, 1995. In college, he played football for Middle Tennessee.
James attended Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida. In addition to playing football and getting a letter, he dabbled in track and won multiple state titles.
In the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers picked James with the 240th overall choice. In Week 5’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, he made his first NFL reception, which gained him seven yards.

On November 5, 2020, during Thursday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers, James outperformed both of his season highs from 2018 and 2019. He recorded nine receptions for 184 yards and a score. The 49ers, however, lost 34-17.
James had knee surgery on August 27, 2021, and the 49ers waived/injured him and placed him on injured reserve the following day, August 28.
