Justin Layne, a cornerback with the National Football League’s New York Giants, was born on January 12, 1998. In college, he played football for Michigan State.
In Cleveland, Ohio, Layne attended Benedictine High School. Layne and current NFL linebacker Jerome Baker were teammates there. In high school, he was a wide receiver and cornerback.
He made a commitment to play football at Michigan State University. Layne was a wide receiver when he began his first season at Michigan State in 2016, but he was changed to a cornerback before the fifth game of the year.
He participated in 34 games throughout the course of his career, recording 130 tackles, three interceptions, 0.5 sacks, and one score. Layne signed up for the 2019 NFL Draft after finishing his junior year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Layne in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft (83rd overall). In 2019, he had a limited 10-game appearance, recording just 3 tackles for the year.
On July 29, 2020, the Steelers put Layne on the reserve/COVID-19 list. On August 11, 2020, he was put into service. He participated in all 16 of the Steelers’ contests, recording 22 tackles overall. He was let go by the Steelers on August 30, 2022.
Layne was taken off waivers by the New York Giants on August 31, 2022.
