Xavier McKinney plays safety for the New York Giants of the National Football League. His full name is Xavier Alshon McKinney. He played football at Roswell High School in Roswell, Georgia, where he was a student. He had seven interceptions and 82 tackles during his senior season. He participated in 13 games as a special teams member and backup for Alabama’s freshman team. He had 73 tackles, two interceptions, and three sacks as a starter in 2018 and was honored as the Orange Bowl’s defensive MVP. McKinney made the decision to forego his senior year and declare for the 2020 NFL Draft on January 4, 2020.
The New York Giants selected McKinney with the 36th overall choice in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. McKinney’s first career interception, made by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton in the end zone with 1:24 left in the fourth quarter of a game on January 3, 2021, helped the Giants defeat the Cowboys.
He intercepted two passes in week 6 of the 2021 season against the Los Angeles Rams. The Giants revealed that McKinney was a part of the COVID protocol in November 2021. He had seven tackles and two pass interceptions in Week 9’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, which helped the Giants defeat the Raiders. As a result of his performance, he was selected NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
