Jihad Ward is a defensive end with the National Football League’s New York Giants. He is 130 kg and 1.96 m tall. He attended Edward W. Bok Technical High School, where he first played football in his sophomore year. He was selected for both the 2010 second team All-City team and the 2011 first team All-City team.
After high school, he attended Globe Institute of Technology for two years in order to improve his grades. In 2013, he played in 7 games and made 26 tackles, including 3 for loss, and 2 sacks. He played college football for the Illinois Fighting Illini team after transferring to the University of Illinois in 2014.
He participated at both defensive end and defensive tackle while starting all 12 games as a senior. Among his stats were 53 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two passes defended, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He recorded 104 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries, 3 forced fumbles, and 3 passes defended in his past two seasons. In the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders picked Ward with the 44th overall choice.
The Dallas Cowboys acquired him in an April 2018 trade from the Raiders. He joined the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad in September of last year. Ward was a Baltimore Ravens acquisition in October of this year. He inked contracts with the New York Giants in March 2022 after signing ones with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March 2021.
