Johnnie Johnson, who played for Texas and the NFL for eleven years before being elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007, was Johnson’s father.

Coach Tom Herman praised Johnson’s significant offseason improvement before his senior season. Johnson was also added to the preseason watch lists for the Walter Camp Award, Wuerffel Award, and Biletnikoff Award.
Johnson was chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the 165th overall choice in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The trade that sent Dante Fowler to the Los Angeles Rams netted the Jaguars the 165th pick, which was utilized to select Johnson.
Johnson has three receptions for 30 yards and his first career touchdown reception in Week 5’s 30-14 loss to the Houston Texans. Johnson had four receptions for 96 yards and a score in Week 11’s 27-25 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Johnson ran in a 46-yard ball from Jaguars quarterback Mike Glennon for his second touchdown of the season. Johnson was placed on injured reserve on January 2, 2021.
