Jimmy Garoppolo Injury Update
As the 49ers continue their quest for a Super Bowl win, Jimmy Garoppolo is struggling with yet another ailment. Garoppolo suffered a “slight” sprain of his right (throwing) shoulder in the second quarter of the 49ers’ 23-17 win over the Cowboys in the NFC wild-card round, according to San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan. “He had to play through some pain and stuff, but he ended up checking out all right.
Just a slight sprain and he should be good for practice,” Shanahan declared. Shanahan stated that Garoppolo should be ready for the team’s divisional playoff matchup with the Packers on Saturday.
This postseason, Garoppolo was already dealing with an injury. In Week 16 against the Titans, he tore a ligament in his right thumb, forcing him to miss the team’s Week 17 game against the Texans. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Garoppolo will require offseason surgery to repair the damage.
Garoppolo did enough to help San Francisco win on Sunday, although he struggled a bit more in the second half. In the third and fourth quarters, he completed just 5 of 11 passes for 39 yards and threw an interception that allowed the Cowboys to tie the game.
