He went to Lakes Community High School for his senior year of high school, where he also participated in football. He made a promise to play college football for the Western Michigan Broncos after graduating from high school.
He later changed his mind and enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to play for the Wisconsin Badgers. The Eagles chose to sign him to a $3.2 million, one-year contract after his outstanding performance in their Week 11 game, which included two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
