Elliott was conceived by Bruce and Diane Elliott in Western Springs, Illinois. He was quite good in baseball, basketball, and tennis when he was little. He was regarded as one of the top young tennis players in the state.

With his 56-yard field goal against USF, he broke Stephen Gostkowski’s 2005 mark of 53 yards and established a new Memphis record.
In addition to becoming one of three players to receive the Lou Groza Award’s “Stars of the Week” designation, he was named the American Athletic Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week. Elliott led the American Athletic Conference in scoring during his sophomore season, averaging 9.2 points per contest.
He received the First Team All-Conference and Conference Special Teams Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive year. He made 21 of 32 field goal attempts and all 57 extra-point tries during his season, scoring 120 points overall. His 57 extra points, 21 made field goals, and 120 points scored overall were the most in the American Conference.
On February 9, 2017, it was announced that Elliott was entering the 2017 NFL Draft.
