He acknowledged that he was unfamiliar with American football and had never played it. He visited the IMG Academy in Florida in February 2018 to work out with coach Aden Durde. Philadelphia Eagles selected Mailata with the 233rd overall choice in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
The Eagles offered him a four-year, $2.5 million contract with a $89,392 signing bonus. In week 4 of the 2020 campaign, against the San Francisco 49ers, he made his debut for the Philadelphia Eagles. He ranked first among offensive lineman for the Eagles in sacks allowed during the 2020 campaign, surrendering just 7.
He also had the most pass-pro snaps among Eagles offensive lineman (502) for a pass-pro snaps-per-sack score of 71.7. Mailata was designated the starting left tackle for the 2021 NFL season by Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni in August of that year. Mailata agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal with the Eagles in September 2021.
