The Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League are home to American cornerback Darius Slay. In Brunswick, Georgia, his alma mater, he played defensive back and running back for Brunswick High School. Defensive back All-State honors from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and selection to the Georgia North-South All-Star Game were given to him following his senior year.
In the 2008 campaign, he rushed for over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns, intercepted six passes, returning two of them for scores, and had over 150 tackles. He rushed for 336 yards and six touchdowns in just five games as a junior before suffering a damaged medial collateral ligament. As a sophomore, he had 13 touchdown runs and 1,127 yards on 142 carries.
2011 saw him transfer to Mississippi State University from Itawamba Community College. He was named to the first team of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State team and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 team as a freshman at ICC. He played for the Mississippi State Bulldogs football team after graduating from ICC under head coach Dan Mullen.
64 tackles, six interceptions, and two touchdowns were all part of his two seasons at Mississippi State. He was expected to be selected in the second or third round of the draft after graduating from Mississippi State. During the 2013 NFL Draft’s second round, the Detroit Lions selected Slay.
