The Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League utilize wide receiver DeVonta Smith professionally. At Amite High Magnet School, he engaged in both football and basketball. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide at the University of Alabama after completing his high school career.
He caught eight passes in 2017 as a true freshman for 160 yards and three touchdowns. During his sophomore year of football in 2018, he caught 42 passes for 693 yards and six touchdowns. He led the Crimson Tide in receiving yards and touchdowns with 1,256 on 68 catches, along with 14 scores. In September 2018, he had a game with 274 yards and 5 touchdowns, both career highs.
He surpassed the previous SEC career record for most receiving touchdowns in November 2020. He broke more than seven school receiving marks while a player for Alabama. Although he was invited to play in the 2021 Senior Bowl, he declined. Smith was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles with the tenth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
On June 3, 2021, he signed a four-year rookie deal with the Eagles worth $20.1 million. Smith had eight catches for a career-high 169 yards and a score in the 24-8 victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 3 of the 2022 NFL season.
