He declined offers from other colleges to play collegiate football in favor of joining the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns squad at the University of Louisiana. In 2022, he also participated in the NFL Combine. In the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Butler was taken by the Washington Commanders with the 113rd overall choice. He signed a four-year rookie deal on June 21, 2022.
