Taylor Heinicke plays quarterback professionally for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League. He weighs 95 kg and stands 1.85 meters high. While a student at Collins Hill High School, he helped the team to a 10-4 record and a trip to the Class AAAAA playoffs in his junior year, earning him a spot on the all-state team.
As a senior, he won one of 50 high school varsity football players in Georgia the Old Spice National Player of the Year award. In order to attend Old Dominion University (ODU), he was given an athletic scholarship in 2011. He played football for the Old Dominion Monarchs from 2011 to 2014.
His passing yards, passing yards per game, and touchdown passes put him in the top 10 FBS quarterbacks at the end of the 2013 season. The Minnesota Vikings signed Heinicke as an undrafted free agent after the 2015 NFL Draft, which saw him go undrafted. In September 2017, the New England Patriots added him to their practice squad; however, in October, they dismissed him.
In November 2017, he signed up for the Houston Texans practice squad, and the Carolina Panthers later claimed him off waivers in April 2018. As of December 2020, Heinicke was a member of the Washington Commanders’ practice squad. Against the Green Bay Packers in the Commanders’ season opener in 2022, he threw for 200 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
