Cole Holcomb plays linebacker for the National Football League’s Washington Commanders. He played NCAA football for North Carolina and was selected by Washington, back when they were the Redskins, in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Holcomb participated in all 14 games in his debut season as a walk-on, mostly on special teams. He played in 35 games over the next three seasons as he rose to the position of starting middle linebacker.
Holcomb was selected by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round (173rd overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year rookie deal on May 9, 2019.
In Week 8’s 19-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Holcomb forced wide receiver Stefon Diggs to fumble; Ryan Anderson recovered the ball. Holcomb led the club with 13 tackles in the 19-16 victory over the Detroit Lions in week 12. He also had one sack of Jeff Driskel.He played inside linebacker during the NFL season. He was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list on December 22, 2021, which forced him to miss the Cowboys’ Week 16 game. He was reinstated to the active roster on December 27.
