Born on August 15, 1993, in Phenix City, Alabama, Joshua Dobbie (J.D.) McKissic later played high school football at Central High School.
McKissic, a three-star wide receiver recruit, picked Arkansas State over offers to play college football from Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina. He started for the Arkansas State Red Wolves as a multi-positional player in all but three of his college games.
He set school records in 2012 while wearing a red-shirt, finishing second in the Sun Belt with 103 receptions and second all-time at Arkansas State with 1,022 receiving yards. He was also named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and a Scripps Freshman All-American.
McKissic is an American football running back for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL).
He played college football at Arkansas State, where set the Sun Belt Conference record for most career receptions with 289. McKissic signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and has also played for the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions.
Following his undrafted status in the 2016 NFL Draft, McKissic signed with the Atlanta Falcons. His first action in the NFL was a 101-yard kickoff return for a score against the Washington Redskins in a preseason game.
McKissic was released by the Falcons as part of the team’s final roster cuts on September 3, 2016, and the following day he was added to the practice squad. On December 16, 2016, he was added to the active roster before being released three days later.
McKissic, a free agent in 2022, initially accepted terms on a two-year, $7 million deal with the Buffalo Bills before accepting the same offer from Washington.
