American football running back J. D. McKissic plays for the National Football League’s Washington Redskins.
His 289 career receptions at Arkansas State, where he played college football, were the most in Sun Belt Conference history when he graduated.
He played for the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons in 2016.
At Central High School, he participated in high school football. McKissic, a three-star wide receiver recruit, chose Arkansas State over offers from Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina to play collegiate football.
In all but three of his college games, he started for the Arkansas State Red Wolves as a multi-positional player.
He set school records in 2012 while wearing a red-shirt, finishing second in the Sun Belt with 103 receptions and second all-time at Arkansas State with 1,022 receiving yards. He was also named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and a Scripps Freshman All-American.
After tying a school record with 11 receptions, 113 yards, and a touchdown against Kent State in the Go-Daddy Bowl, he was named the offensive MVP. He twice tied for third most receptions in a game with 12, and his four 100+ yard receiving outings for Arkansas State tied for third most in a season.
He recorded 525 yards receiving, 112 yards rushing, and 654 kickoff return yards during his senior season, earning him his third Sun Belt All-Conference selection as a wide receiver and all-purpose player (5th all time, including a school record with 211 in game 7 against Toledo, and his second touchdown).
Early in the New Orleans Bowl, he suffered an injury, but he still managed to rack up three receptions for 26 yards, three rushes for 25 yards, a 9-yard pass completion, and an 18-yard kickoff return against Louisiana Tech.
In 2017, he was selected for the all-Arkansas State team. He finished his career with 53 kickoff returns for 1,473 yards and an average return of 27.8 yards. He also set school and Sun Belt Conference records with 289 receptions for 2,838 yards and 11 touchdowns.
