For the Washington Commanders of the National Football League, Montez Sweat plays defensive end professionally. He is 119 kg and 1.98 m tall. One of the top tight ends in the nation, he attended and participated in high school football at Stephenson High School. After high school, he made a commitment to Michigan State to play collegiate football for the Spartans.

Before redshirting in 2015, he participated in two games there and recorded one sack. In 2016, he graduated from Michigan State and enrolled at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He departed Mississippi State University once more in 2017 to play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

His 10.5 sacks during his debut season at Mississippi State led to his selection to the 2017 All-SEC football team. He was then selected as an All-American, made the 2018 All-SEC football team, and concluded the season with 12 sacks as a senior. He set a defensive lineman record at the 2019 NFL Combine by running the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds.

He earned a sack against the Philadelphia Eagles during Week 15 of the 2021 NFL season, and he also forced a turnover.
