Shaka Felton Toney is a defensive end with the Washington Commanders of the National Football League. He attended Penn State during his collegiate football career before being selected by Washington in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Toney was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 8th, 1998, and he went to Imhotep Institute Charter High School for his secondary education. After finishing his senior year with 97 tackles and 21 sacks, he was recognized as the Pennsylvania Football News Class AAA Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the first team of All-State.
Toney sat out his true freshman season with a redshirt at Penn State. Toney was honored with a spot on the Big Ten Network’s All-Freshman team after his performance as a redshirt freshman. He finished the season with 20 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, and two forced fumbles.
During the 2021 NFL Draft, Toney was selected by the Washington Commanders in the seventh round (246th overall). On May 13, 2021, he became a rookie by officially signing a contract for four years.
During the 12th game of his career, Toney recorded his first sack for Washington, which helped the team win 17-15 on Monday Night Football.
