Kyric McGowan was born in Dalton, Georgia, where he was raised, on November 1, 1999.
He participated in track and field, football, and baseball while a student at Dalton High School. He served as the football team’s captain as a senior and helped the squad win the Georgia 6-A State championship.
McGowan is an American football wide receiver for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Northwestern and Georgia Tech and was signed by the Commanders as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
He received first-team all-region and all-area honors and was named to the all-state honorable mention list.
McGowan, a three-star prospect, chose Northwestern as his collegiate football home. He played in 11 games and registered five receptions for 51 yards as one of the 13 true freshmen to see action during the regular season in 2017. He participated in all 13 games as a sophomore in 2018, recording 16 receptions for 283 yards and two touchdowns.
In his junior season, he started all nine of the games in which he took the field and concluded the campaign with 13 receptions for 102 yards, 177 rushing yards, and one touchdown. He participated in eight games in 2020, recording 34 receptions for 366 yards.
In May 2022, McGowan signed a contract with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent.
On August 30, 2022, he was released, but the next day, he was re-signed to the practice squad. For their matchup with the Green Bay Packers, he was called up from the practice squad and saw action on 13 different offensive and special team plays.
