Chase Young became the first rookie in Washington history to win the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Month award in December 2020, the same month that he was elected team captain.
In addition to being the lone rookie on the PFWA’s all-conference team, he was selected Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press and PFWA. Young and Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson were the only two rookies selected for the 2021 Pro Bowl.
Furthermore, he was a finalist for the Best Breakthrough Athlete Award at the 2021 ESPYs, which NBA star LaMelo Ball won, and he was listed as the 61st best player in the NFL in 2021.
Before suffering a season-ending ACL tear in his right knee during a Week 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Young had a successful second season in 2021, compiling 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
To reconstruct his ACL, surgery involved grafting a portion of the patellar tendon from his other knee. Many sportswriters thought the season was disappointing because they expected him to have advanced in his growth.
Young was declared physically unable to perform at the start of training camp in 2022. On November 2, 2022, he was assigned to return to the active roster.
Young was motivated to major in criminology at Ohio State by his father and a number of his uncles and relatives, all of whom have experience working in law enforcement.
While playing for the Buckeyes, he earned the moniker “The Predator” for both his on-field prowess and the way his dreadlocks resembled Predators from the Predator film series. The Klutch Sports Group agency is Young’s agent.
He has also starred in episodes of The Shop and Celebrity Family Feud, as well as commercials for Chipotle, Under Armour, and eBay.
Young contributed vocals as a guest on the 2021 rapper Wale’s album Folarin II single “Fire & Ice.” He drove the ceremonial pace car during the Federated Auto Parts 400 in 2022.
