Joshua Ricardo Norman is an American football cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League(NFL). He was born on December 15, 1987, in Greenwood, South Carolina. He is 6ft 0 in tall and weighs 200lbs.
He attended Norman Greenwood High School and was a teammate of other future NFL players in Armanti Edwards and D.J wearing. He was named an All-State football player and was selected to participate in the North-South All-Star Game.
Norman earned a full scholarship in football to Coastal Carolina and enrolled at Coastal Carolina. During his true freshman year in college, He played in all 12 games with 7 starts.
He recorded 26 solo tackles and 35 total tackles, tying for the ninth most tackles on the team. He ranked fifth in the Big South with nine pass defenses and two interceptions. Norman tied for second in Coastal Carolina history with 11 career interceptions and pass breakups with 23.
In his early professional years, It was announced that Norman has accepted his invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game. He began to climb draft boards after he did well in the East-West Shrine Game practices.
Norman earned applauses from the coaches and scouts by intercepting six passes during Senior bowl practices. He was ranked the eighth-best cornerback prospect in the draft by NFL analyst Mike Mayock, 10th best by Scouts Inc., 28th best CBS Sports, and 29th best by DraftScout.com
The Carolina Panthers selected Norman in the fifth round, 143rd overall, of the 2012 NFL Draft, he then signed a four-year rookie contract with the Panthers, worth $2.3million, and became an NFL Draft player in 2012, He ended his contracts after he and team failed to agree on a new making him an unrestricted free agent.
He was given another Five-year contract to be signed by Washington Redskins in 2016 worth $75 million which made him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history at that time.
However, In February 2020, Norman was released by the Redskins after they fired head coach Jay Gruden and hired former Carolina Panthers. He moved to Buffalo Bills in March 2020 and signed a one-year, $6million contract that includes $3 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $1.50 million. He later moved to San Francisco 49ers on September 6, 2021.
