For the National Football League’s Washington Commanders, Phidarian Mathis plays defensive tackle professionally. He is 142 kg and 1.93 m tall. Prior to transferring to Neville High School, he previously attended Franklin Parish High School. He has seven sacks and 41 tackles as a senior at Neville. He played collegiate football for the Alabama Crimson Tide while attending the University of Alabama.
In 2017, he redshirted his true freshman year and participated in all 15 of the Crimson Tide’s contests. He made the Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman team after playing in 15 games and recording 18 tackles and a fumble recovery.

He finished the season with a total of nine sacks, 12 tackles for loss, six quarterback pressures, and two pass breakups. In the second round, the Washington Commanders selected Mathis with the 47th overall pick after he declared his intention to enter the 2022 NFL Draft following the regular season. On June 21, 2022, he agreed to a rookie deal for four years.
