Growing up, Nik Bonitto attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As a senior, he received the Under Armour All-American honour.
Despite receiving offers from Texas and Louisville, four-star recruit Bonitto chose Oklahoma over those schools to play college football. As a true freshman, Bonitto participated in three games before choosing to sit out the entire year.
Six games into his redshirt freshman season, he was named the outside linebacker starting. He finished the year with 43 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks.
He had 29 stops, 10 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and was selected a second-team All-American by the Associated Press as a redshirt sophomore.
In the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Bonitto with the 64th overall pick. In a trade for Von Miller, the Broncos used the selection they had previously acquired from the Los Angeles Rams.
