Born on December 25, 1994, Josey Jewell is an American football linebacker for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL).
Jewell played linebacker and running back in high school football while attending Decorah High School in Decorah, Iowa.
When his squad defeated Sioux City Bishop Heelan 49-21 in the 2012 contest, Jewell assisted his team in appearing in back-to-back 3A State Title Games.
At Iowa, he played collegiate football. Jewell participated in 11 games and earned four starts in 2014 after redshirting his freshman year at Iowa in 2013.
He had 51 tackles and one sack by the season’s end. He made all 14 starts as a sophomore in 2015, leading the team with 126 tackles, three sacks, and four interceptions.
Jewell was chosen by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft (106th overall). In 2018, Jewell was selected as the 14th linebacker. On May 10, 2018, Jewell signed a four-year, $3.17 million contract with the Denver Broncos, which also included a $713,982 signing bonus.
He joined training camp and faced off against Keishawn Bierria, Zaire Anderson, Joseph Jones, and Jerrol Garcia-Williams for a spot as a backup inside linebacker.
Jewell had two combined tackles against the Oakland Raiders in his second NFL regular season game. He led the team with ten tackles in Week 4 of the 2020 campaign against the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. He also sacked Sam Darnold twice in the 37-28 victory.
