Virgil redshirted his true freshman year and played for the Appalachian State Mountaineers for six seasons. In his final season, he caught 15 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown while returning 26 kickoffs for a school-record 781 yards.
Virgil agreed to a non-drafted free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos on April 30, 2022. After training camp, he was added to the 53-man initial roster of the Broncos.
