Linebacker Kana’i Mauga joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Mauga’s name wasn’t mentioned much during mock drafts, except for a handful of them, so it wasn’t shocking to see him go undrafted when the official draft took place.
Mauga started his career at Waianae High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. As a member of the high school team, he mostly played as a utility player.
As a senior at Waianae High School, Mauga played linebacker and tight end, and he was recognized as a PrepStar All-American, USA Today All-Hawaii Defensive Player of the Year, and KHON2/Cover2 Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.
In 2017, he finished with 52.5 tackles, including 5 for losses (including 3 sacks), 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 3 defensive touchdowns.
Mauga started at the University of Southern California in the spring of 2018 after finishing his senior year of high school a semester early. He played a lot as an outside linebacker and on special teams as a first-year freshman in 2018. He played in all 12 games and had a total of 14 tackles in 2018, including 1 for a loss of 1 yard and 2 deflections
