As the only player to have played for 14 different teams, Josh Johnson now holds the NFL record in its entirety.
The United Football League (UFL), Alliance of American Football (AAF), the XFL Buccaneers, Washington Redskins, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, and New York Jets are just a few of the teams he has played for.
His tenure with other teams has typically lasted no longer than one season, with the exception of his first four years with the Buccaneers, where he spent his longest stretch. He is currently the quarterback for the National Football League’s Denver Broncos.
Prior to that, he played college football at San Diego and was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
His outstanding NFL Combine accomplishments, where he recorded the greatest 40-yard sprint time (4.53) and vertical jump of any quarterback in the 2008 NFL Combine, were helpful to him.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him with the 160th overall pick (pick 25) in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. A classic journeyman quarterback, he played for 15 different NFL teams during his career.
Johnson was signed by the Baltimore Ravens off of the Jets’ practice squad on December 15, 2021. When Tyler Huntley tested positive for COVID-19 in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals and Lamar Jackson had an ankle injury, he was compelled to start.
The Ravens lost the game 21-41 despite him going 28 for 40 for 304 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception while also rushing for 10 yards. Johnson inked a contract with the Denver Broncos on March 18, 2022.
On August 30, 2022, he was discharged, and the following day, he was added to the practice squad. Johnson was added to the team’s active roster on October 22, 2022, as a result of an injury to starting quarterback Russell Wilson.
