Zach McCloud attended Santaluces High School in Lantana, Florida. He was rated as a Four-star outside linebacker according to ESPN and 247Sports.
Before his senior year at Santaluces, he was placed on the watchlist for nomination for the Butkus Award, which is given to the best player in California high school sports.
McCloud was rated as the No. 9 prospect on the Sun Sentinel Mega board, which evaluated the best players in Broward and Palm Beach.
As a sought-after player, McCloud had a lot of offers from institutions including, Miami, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, North Carolina, and South Carolina, among others. He eventually chose the University of Miami.
McCloud had a remarkable performance in his first year of college football, as he started 11 of the team’s 13 games at linebacker and finished with 37 tackles (18 solo). He produced 3.5 tackles for loss (four yards), two pass breakups, and four quarterback hurries in addition to that.
He made his career debut against Florida A&M, started the season opener, and had one blocked kick.
