He played collegiate football while a student at East Central University. Benson played football for the East Central Tigers during his time in college.
He ran for 324 yards and five touchdowns as a senior and caught 45 passes for 507 yards and four more, earning him a spot on the first-team All-Great American Conference.
Benson signed with the team on April 29, 2019, and on that day he joined the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent. [3] After training camp ended on August 31 of that year, the squad did not keep him.
On September 24, 2019, the Broncos signed Benson as a free agent and added him back to their practice squad.
On August 31, 2021, the Denver Broncos traded Benson to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Broncos get picks in the fifth and seventh rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft in exchange. Locals in and around Detroit call him “the steak bet” due to his popularity on the Detroit Lions fan forum podcast.
