Before moving to Valdosta State, Fortson played his first collegiate football season at Erie Community College. The Valdosta State Blazers’ Fortson, a wide receiver, had 37 receptions for 477 yards and 7 touchdowns in 19 games.
On May 13, 2019, Fortson signed as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs after switching to tight end in the NFL. On August 31, 2019, he was fired, and the following day, he was recruited for the practice squad.
