After being accepted into both Temple and Appalachian State, Gray decided to enrol at Duke. All told, Gray hauled in five receptions for 37 yards and two scores as a freshman.
As a sophomore at Duke, he started all 13 games and ended with 20 receptions, 234 yards and one score on the football field.
Gray was chosen by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and the ACC’s second team as a wide receiver after his junior season when he caught 51 passes for 392 yards and three scores.
Gray received these accolades as a result of his outstanding performance in his junior year. Gray was largely regarded as a top tight end candidate for the 2021 NFL Draft when his senior season began.
Moreover, he was a candidate for the Mackey Award.
