Smith’s career in football started during his time at the University School of Jackson. He was a top-rated player and one of the nation’s top prospects out of University School.

Smith was a two-time winner of the Mr. Football title in Tennessee, as well as a two-time winner of the District Offensive Lineman of the Year and a two-time winner of the Tennessee Player of the Year award.

As a sought-after athlete, Smith had a lot of scholarship offers from Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Alabama but chose Tennessee instead.

He enrolled at the University of Tennessee (UT) in 2017 and played three seasons of college football for the Tennessee Volunteers.
