John Sherman Smith-Schuster aka Juju was raised in Long Beach, California, and is of African American and Samoan origin. He considers himself to be a Christian and is the second oldest of seven kids.

2014’s Smith-Schuster, a true freshman, had immediate playing time. Against Fresno State, he had four receptions for 123 yards in his debut game ever. He had six receptions for 74 yards and three touchdowns in the game against the Washington State Cougars.
He has 54 receptions for 724 yards and five touchdowns by the time the 2014 season was up. Smith-Schuster had a career-high 1,454 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in his 14 games as a sophomore in 2015.
On March 20, 2022, Smith-Schuster committed to the Kansas City Chiefs. The contract had a maximum value of $10.75 million and lasted for one year. In a 20-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills on October 16, 2022, he scored his first touchdown while playing for the Chiefs.
