On September 17, 1998, Jaylen Watson, a cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League, was born. Prior to going to Washington State, he played college football at Ventura College.
The Chiefs selected him in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. While growing up in Augusta, Georgia, Watson attended both Lucy Craft Laney High School and Curtis Baptist High School.
Watson enrolled at Ventura College to start his college career. He had 43 tackles as a sophomore while also recording 13 pass breakups, four interceptions, and one fumble recovery.
Watson had initially committed to transferring to USC but was unable to do so because of his academic standing.
Watson started all three games during the Washington State Cougars’ COVID-19-shortened 2020 season at cornerback and was selected honorable mention All-Pac-12 Conference after compiling 13 tackles, two passes were broken up, a forced fumble, and one recovered fumble.
In the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Watson was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs as the 243rd overall pick.
Against the Los Angeles Chargers, Watson scored a touchdown and made his first career interception. He scored on a 99-yard interception return. He was honored as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his effort.
