An American football coach named James Bettcher was born on May 27, 1978. He formerly worked for the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants as a defensive coordinator.
Bettcher began his coaching career in 2004 at Saint Francis as the special team’s coordinator and defensive line coach (IN). He then worked for Bowling Green as a graduate assistant before moving on to North Carolina, Ball State, and New Hampshire.
Bettcher was hired by the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL after coaching at many universities. When Bruce Arians were the Colts’ temporary head coach, he coached under him. Bettcher accompanied Arians to the Cardinals when he was promoted as head coach.
Bettcher was promoted to replace defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who departed to become head coach of the New York Jets.
The New York Giants signed Bettcher as defensive coordinator under head coach Pat Shurmur on January 23, 2018. New Giants head coach Joe Judge did not rehire Betcher for the 2020 season, instead of hiring Patrick Graham.
