Franco Harris, an American retired professional football player who played fullback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League (NFL), was born on March 7, 1950.
He was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 1972 NFL Draft, as the 13th overall pick, after playing college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions. He spent his first 12 years in the NFL with the Steelers before joining the Seahawks for his 13th and final season. In 1990, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Harris was born in the town of Fort Dix in the state of New Jersey. Cad Harris, his African-American father, served in World War II and was stationed in Italy. Gina Parenti Harris, his Caucasian mother, was an Italian native who became a “war bride” and migrated to the United States with her husband after the war ended.
