When Was Jordan Montgomery Drafted?
Montgomery was taken 122nd overall in the fourth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees.
When he signed with the Yankees, he received a $424,000 signing bonus.
Following his collegiate season, he went on to pitch for the Gulf Coast Yankees of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League and the Staten Island Yankees of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League, compiling a 1–1 record with a 3.79 ERA in 19 innings while playing for both teams.
In 2015, he began the season with the Charleston RiverDogs of the Class A South Atlantic League. After being released by the New York Yankees in June, he was sent to the Tampa Yankees of the Florida State League’s Class A Advanced division.
Prior to being promoted to the Class AAA International League’s Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in August, Montgomery spent the majority of the 2016 season with the Trenton Thunder of the Class AA Eastern League.
He was the winning pitcher in the Triple-A National Championship Game.
Montgomery was invited to spring training in 2017 as a non-roster player and competed for a starting spot on Opening Day.
On April 12, 2017, the Yankees promoted Montgomery from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to the major leagues.
Despite allowing three runs (two of which were earned) over four innings and seven strikeouts in his major league debut against the Tampa Bay Rays, Montgomery was not given a decision.
