Clint Capela leads the Hawks in lifetime field-goal percentage and led the NBA in the same category in 2017–18.
Capela was born in Geneva, Switzerland, to an Angolan father and a Congolese mother. His parents were divorced a few months after his birth, leaving his mother to raise him and his brothers alone.
He used to like soccer as a kid. He was reared in foster care for a portion of his childhood. His brother advised he switch sports because he was 1.90 m (6 ft 3 in) as a 13-year-old.
Capela became increasingly interested in basketball after meeting Swiss legend Thabo Sefolosha. He was recognized with the Swiss squad in the European Junior Championships when he was 15 years old and joined the INSEP training camp in Chalon-sur-Saône, France.
Capela made his LNB Pro A debut in 2012 with the senior Élan Chalon squad.
Capela participated in the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit on April 12, 2014, representing the World Team. He entered the 2014 NBA draft later that month.
