Merrifield and the Royals have agreed to a four-year contract agreement worth $16.25 million with $2 million in performance bonuses, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

According to Jon Heyman of Fancred, the agreement will contain a fifth-year club option, which could boost the total value of the contract to more than $30 million if it is fully exercised.

Merrifield is a recent convert to the top leagues, having only made his debut in 2016.

He hit 192 hits in 2018, leading the majors; he hit 19 home runs in 2017 and 12 in 2018; he averaged over 32 doubles, and he led the American League in stolen bases with 34 in 2017 and 45 in 2018.

Merrifield makes an average of $4,062,500 every year. Merrifield will be paid a base salary of $2,750,000 and a $200,000 incentive bonus in 2022.
