After a series of plays in the second quarter at the Chase Center, Golden State’s head coach looked to be lecturing Smart, one of which resulted in Warriors star Steph Curry being injured.
In the first half of Thursday’s game between the Celtics and Warriors, Steve Kerr didn’t like a couple of plays made by Marcus Smart, and he made sure his displeasure was heard.
Several plays took place in a matter of seconds. Smart dived for a loose ball in the first quarter and collided with Steph Curry, rolling up Curry’s leg by mistake. Curry hobbled along with the court behind the play after collapsing and wincing.
Meanwhile, Smart sprung to his feet and raced up the floor for the stray ball. Smart jumped into the air after Klay Thompson’s pump-fake. He booted the ball as he soared passed Thompson.
Kerr told reporters after the game, “I thought that was a dangerous move.” “I’m outraged because I felt Marcus slammed his fist into Steph’s knee.”
Marcus deserves a lot of respect; he’s a fantastic player. A few summers ago, I coached him at the World Cup. We chatted after the game and everything was fine. But I believed it was a risky move.”
Smart and Kerr spoke again after the game, this time on more friendly terms. Smart claimed they were “calmer, certainly calmer” when they met after the game since they had already met through Team USA basketball.
